COOKIE POLICY
Not the fun double chocolate chip kind (our personal favourite)
This page explains what cookies are, which ones this site uses, and how you can control them. No jargon, just the facts so you can make the call yourself.
1. WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are small text files that get saved on your device when you visit a website. They're used for all sorts of things - keeping you logged in, remembering your basket, or helping site owners understand how people are using their site. Some are essential (the site breaks without them), others are optional extras. We only use the optional ones if you say it's okay.
2. WHAT COOKIES WE USE
Essential cookies: These cookies keep the website working properly. They handle things like your session and remembering your cookie preferences. You can't opt out of these — without them, the site won't function. They don't track you across other websites and don't collect any personal information.
Analytics cookies: We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site — things like which pages are popular, how long people spend, and where visitors come from. The data is anonymised and aggregated, so we can't identify you personally from it. These cookies are only set if you've given your consent.
3. WHAT WE DON’T USE
We don't currently use any advertising, retargeting, or social media cookies — so no Meta Pixel, no TikTok Pixel, nothing like that. If that changes as the business grows, we'll update this policy and ask for your consent before anything new is set.
4. HOW TO MANAGE YOUR COOKIE PREFERENCES
When you first visit the site, you'll see a cookie banner where you can accept or decline analytics cookies. If you change your mind later, you can update your preferences any time — just look for the cookie settings link in the footer.
You can also control cookies directly through your browser. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings menu. Heads up though: blocking essential cookies will affect how the site works.
Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies
Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
Edge: Settings → Cookies and Site Permissions.
For more information about managing cookies, visit www.aboutcookies.org or www.allaboutcookies.org.
5. THIRD-PARTY COOKIES
Google Analytics cookies are set by Google, not us, and Google's own privacy policy applies to them. You can read it at policies.google.com. You can also opt out of Google Analytics entirely across all websites by installing Google's opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
6. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If we start using new cookies — for example when we add advertising pixels down the line — we'll update this page and ask for your consent before anything changes. The date at the top will always tell you when it was last updated.
7. QUESTIONS?
If anything here isn't clear, just ask. We'd rather explain it than leave you guessing - email us on info@shinypeople.co.uk and we’ll see if we can help.
