SUSTAINABILITY & SOURCING

HOW WE DO THINGS

I believe that good jewellery should be thoughtfully made - and that means knowing where it comes from.

But jewellery is complicated. Gold has to come from somewhere, and so do gemstones. So for me it's about making thoughtful choices at every stage of the process.

I only use 100% recycled metals, I work with a local casting team, and I only get stones from suppliers who responsibly source them.

I want you to wear your Shiny People pieces constantly. I want them to pick up scratches, get caught on jumpers, survive holidays, dinners, bad decisions and very good ones.

And because your pieces are made from solid, lasting materials, they can be repaired, polished, resized and looked after for years to come.

How I make your piece

Every Shiny People piece starts life in my South London studio. Most pieces begin as a block or tube of jeweller’s wax. I carve, shape and refine it by hand, slowly building up the form until it feels just right. It’s a tactile, sometimes slightly obsessive process — and small imperfections are part of what makes a handmade piece feel like yours.

Once the wax model is finished, it makes a short journey across London to my local casting partner, where it’s transformed into precious metal. I work with a small, trusted team so I can keep the process close to home and know exactly where each stage is happening.

When the piece comes back from casting, it's straight back to my bench where I clean up the metal. If your piece has a stone, this is where I carefully set it by hand before giving everything its final finish.

Then comes the polishing — the bit that brings the metal to life and one of my favourite parts - it's like butter and becomes so beautifully shiny.

I share little glimpses of the process over on TikTok, from carving wax and working at the bench to pieces coming together along the way.

RECYCLED GOLD

Gold is magic. It can't be created by man, and it's finite (which is why it's so expensive). Shiny People only works with recycled gold so that we can do our bit to minimise the impact of mining for more.

Stone Sourcing

I source our stones the best way, by looking for character rather than conformity. And I only work with suppliers who adhere to the Kimberley Process Certificate Scheme.

Packaging

I try my best to work with packaging suppliers who use recycled materials, while still ensuring your piece gets to you protected
